The Solar Zodiac is a study in contrast — a black DLC movement set with miniature planetary gemstones, each a different colour, each a different stone. Retouching on a dark surface requires a different discipline: preserving the depth of the black while making every detail of the engraved zodiac constellations and the movement's architecture readable.
Shot against raw crystal ice, the editorial context demanded retouching that served the drama rather than neutralised it. The vivid colour of each planetary gem was enhanced without losing its relationship to the dark surroundings. The result is a set of images where the atmosphere of the composition and the precision of the object coexist.
