Emeralds are the most demanding coloured gemstone in fine jewellery retouching — not because of their brilliance, but because of their depth. Each stone carries unique natural inclusions that give it character and identity. The retoucher's instinct is to clean. The correct approach is to preserve. An emerald without its inclusions is no longer an emerald.
The challenge across this project was balancing luminosity with density — keeping the colour rich and saturated while maintaining the transparency that gives a fine emerald its visual weight. Over the full series, the colour had to remain consistent from piece to piece while respecting the natural variation between individual stones.
