Retouching a ring set with pink sapphires and white diamonds is a study in managed contrast. The warmth and depth of the pink stones had to be preserved — vivid, saturated, true to the actual colour of the sapphires — while the surrounding diamonds needed to remain cold and brilliant. Two entirely different light qualities in a single composition.
The gold and platinum metal work was refined to complement the gemstones rather than compete with them — present as a framework for the stones, not as a visual element in its own right. Across the full series, colour consistency from piece to piece was paramount: the same pink had to read the same way in every image.
